Damn Fine Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is Durham Distillery’s inaugural bourbon release—an eight-barrel blend created by Co-Founder, President and Master Distiller Lee Katrincic.

Six mature rye-recipe barrels contribute structure, depth and a lingering finish, while two wheated bourbon barrels bring softness, balance and approachability. Lee selected each component and developed the final blend to create a versatile bourbon equally suited to sipping neat, pouring over ice or mixing into a beautifully crafted whiskey cocktail.

Lee’s approach draws on more than a decade of distilling experience and the whiskey-blending education he received in a master class taught by the late Dave Pickerell, one of the most influential figures in modern American whiskey.

Distilled and aged in Kentucky, then selected, blended and bottled by Durham Distillery in North Carolina, Damn Fine Bourbon is bottled at 90 proof and non-chill filtered.

Damn Fine Bourbon—and a Damn Fine Evening at Durham Distillery

We attended Durham Distillery’s bourbon tasting Wednesday evening and had a terrific experience. Keeping the group to about 20 people made it feel intimate, friendly, and relaxed—there was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and really engage with the tasting.

Lee Katrincic, one of the owners and master distiller, led the evening and was knowledgeable, approachable, and clearly passionate about the product. We have enjoyed Durham Distillery’s spirits for several years, especially the Kinship Gin and Cucumber Vodka, so we were excited to try their new first-batch bourbon, Damn Fine Bourbon.

It absolutely lived up to the name. We first tasted it neat, where we picked up wonderful notes of chocolate, vanilla, and rye. Then we tried it in several cocktails, each of which brought out a different side of the bourbon while still letting its character come through. Every cocktail had a distinct and enjoyable profile.

For a first bourbon release, this is an exceptionally polished product—and at under $40, it is a remarkable value. Damn Fine Bourbon is now an easy recommendation for anyone who enjoys a well-made, flavorful bourbon, whether neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail. We brought a few bottles home and will definitely be buying more.
